Know-how about jewelry
Wondering about the color variations between different types of Gold?
There is a difference in color between 14-karat, 18-karat, and 24-karat gold. The latter is a rich, darker color, while the other two are a lighter tone. There is also a difference in how pieces age and should be cared for. Solid gold will last a lifetime, while we advise that you do not wear plated-gold pieces whilst sleeping, exercising, or in water. You should also keep your plated jewelry in a cool, dry place when it is not being worn.
What is the best way to care for your Fine Jewelry?
Our fine jewelry is made of 14, 18, or 24kt solid gold. These metals will not oxidize or discolor with proper care but may be cleaned with warm water and mild soap.
Protect your fine jewelry by storing it in a soft cloth bag.
All our gemstones, whether they are precious or semi-precious, come from nature. This infuses each piece with a distinctive charm and character. You can expect subtle variations in color, pattern, and texture, along with captivating inclusions that add depth, dimension, and intrigue.
Natural gemstones can be fragile. Do not use paper towels to clean your gemstones as they can cause scratching.
To keep gemstones clean and shiny, lightly scrub with a soft-bristled brush, warm water, and detergent-free soap.
Avoid chemicals or excessive temperatures when cleaning.
Store in a safe, dry place when not worn to protect them from the elements of daily exposure.
What is Gold Vermeil?
Gold vermeil jewelry is a sought-after high-quality type of gold-plated jewelry that adheres to strict legal regulations in the United States. The term "vermeil" originates from the French language and is pronounced "vehr-may". To be officially called "vermeil" in the United States, a jewelry piece must satisfy the following rigorous conditions.
First, the jewelry piece must have sterling silver as its base material. Sterling silver is a commonly used alloy in premium jewelry and is comprised of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other materials. This composition provides the necessary stability and durability for the jewelry piece.
The second mandatory condition requires the jewelry to be plated with a layer of gold, which is at least 10k, or 10 karats. This implies that the gold content in the layer should be no less than 41.7%. This gold layer is responsible for the lustrous and opulent appearance of the jewelry, which is why it is such a high-end product.
Finally, the third requirement that the jewelry should meet is having a gold layer that is at least 2.5 microns thick. One micron is equal to one thousandth of a millimeter, so this minimum thickness guarantees the jewelry has a substantial gold coating.
Therefore, gold vermeil jewelry is a truly exquisite and luxurious product that meets stringent legal requirements in the United States. With its sterling silver base, superior gold layer with high carat content, and substantial thickness, vermeil jewelry is made to impress and endure.
Does Gold Vermeil wear off?
Invariably, the answer is unfortunately affirmative - the gold vermeil may ultimately erode when subjected to substantial usage. Nonetheless, the plating layer can endure for a significant period due to its remarkable thickness when conscientiously maintained. Although gold vermeil is deemed to be resilient and enduring, comparable to all alloyed gold, everyday wear and tear can naturally cause the metal to deteriorate over time.
Fortunately, numerous measures can be put in place to sustain the longevity of gold vermeil jewelry. With this, take a deep breath. Should you desire to explore our recommended techniques on how to adequately care for your jewelry, delve into our Everyday Jewelry Care Guide.
Is it safe to expose Gold Vermeil to water? Can Vermeil withstand being soaked?
Gold vermeil is a type of jewelry that can be exposed to water, however, it is not recommended for prolonged periods of time, as it can cause the metal to oxidize and lose its shine. While it is not advised to submerge gold vermeil in water, it is still important to note that no metal is completely waterproof, including solid gold. As such, proper care for your jewelry is crucial to ensure it maintains its luster and longevity. To prolong the lifespan of your gold vermeil jewelry, it is best to keep it as dry as possible and avoid exposing it to water. This means removing your jewelry before engaging in activities such as swimming or working out, where sweat can also contribute to tarnishing. By taking necessary precautions and regularly maintaining your gold vermeil pieces, you can ensure that they remain beautiful and captivating for years to come.

Remove plated jewelry prior to exercise, washing your hands, or swimming.
Protect your plated jewelry by storing your items in a dry area in an air-tight case/bag.
What is Brass?
Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been widely employed in jewelry-making since prehistoric times owing to its striking similarity to gold, and the widespread desirability of gold-made objects. This metal's enduring appeal lies not just in its extraordinary aesthetic value, but also in its affordability and ease of maintenance. Unlike other metal jewelry, brass requires minimal cleaning and upkeep, thanks to its inherent ability to avoid tarnishing or damage from rust. Notwithstanding its similarity with gold, brass is not a counterfeit or imitation precious metal. Rather, it is a versatile alloy that can be manipulated to achieve a wide range of colors and tones. If more copper is added, the product takes on a warm, golden tint, while the addition of more zinc results in a cooler, whiter hue.
Does Brass Jewelry tarnish?
Metals, including brass, are prone to tarnish due to constant exposure to oxygen, a natural component of the air we breathe. Although brass is naturally resistant to corrosion and does not rust, it is not immune to surface discoloration and loss of finesse. The process of tarnishing occurs when the metal's surface reacts with environmental factors such as moisture, acidic or alkaline solutions, chemicals, and other substances.
Unlike corrosion, which degrades a metal, tarnishing only affects the surface and results in a loss of shine and brilliance. When copper-based materials, such as brass, tarnish, they develop a thin, dull, grey, or black coating known as "patina." This patina is a common term used to describe tarnished copper alloys because of the unique way copper reacts with its surroundings.
Moreover, one significant factor that contributes to the accelerated tarnishing process of brass jewelry is the oil and dead skin cells that the skin leaves on the surface of the jewelry. These substances can react with the metal to form a thin film that attracts more moisture and dirt, leading to the development of patina. Therefore, to keep brass jewelry looking shiny and new, it is essential to clean it regularly and remove any oil or dirt buildup to prevent the formation of patina.
What is the best way to care for your Brass Jewelry?
Our brass fashion jewelry features carefully crafted resin stones and crystals, elegantly displaying their artisanal beauty while forging a deep connection between the wearer and the maker.
To prevent brass styles from tarnishing, store each piece in a plastic zip lock bag or tightly sealed container. The airtight seal will prevent the oxidation reaction from happening and will slow down tarnishing. Try to squeeze out as much of the extra air as you can. Bonus points if you include an anti-tarnish strip in the bag.
Bronze and brass are beautiful alternatives to solid gold jewelry, and they are much more affordable. The reason these metals are more affordable, however, is that they are much more reactive to the elements than fine metals, and can tarnish quickly if not cared for properly. The good news is, as opposed to brass jewelry that has been plated with gold that will eventually wear off, non-plated pieces can be cleaned easily to maintain their beautiful gold luster.
Try to avoid contact with water and chemicals (bleach, perfume, bug spray, sunscreen, etc). This will cause your brass jewelry to oxidize faster.
Brass pieces can actually be protected from tarnish by wearing them and touching them. Inevitably, your brass jewelry will be exposed to water and air, and you will have to clean it periodically. It is recommended to use a Polishing Cloth to polish the metal.
What is the best way to care for your Silver Jewelry?
To prevent sterling silver styles from tarnishing, store each piece in a plastic zip lock bag or tightly sealed container. The airtight seal will prevent the oxidation reaction from happening and will slow down tarnishing.
To renew luminosity, clean with mild soap and dry with a soft cotton cloth. All sterling silver products can be identified by locating a stamp with the sterling silver '925' mark.
